Massage Ordinance

Printer-friendly version

The City Council is considering an Ordinance that would regulate massage professionals and massage businesses in the City.  Specifically, it would mandate that persons offering massage in the City be State-certified and that massage businesses employ exclusively State-certified massage professionals to perform massages, that massage businesses and massage professionals apply for and obtain a revocable certificate of registration with the City, and that massage establishments abide by certain operating and sanitation standards.

This Ordinance was first introduced at the May 19th Council Meeting and the Council will consider adoption of the Ordinance at its June 19th meeting.

The proposed Ordinance will not affect properly licensed physicians, chiropractors, nurses, barbers, beauticians and certain other individuals and businesses while they are engaged in practices within the scope of their licenses.

If you have questions regarding this proposed Ordinance, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (415) 508-2113.
