City of Brisbane Selects Touchstone IQ to Support Energy & Water Benchmarking

Industry-leading software will help advance goals of the Brisbane Building Efficiency Program to address energy and water use in existing large commercial buildings.

Denver, Colo. - October 19, 2022 - The City of Brisbane, California has selected Touchstone IQ as the new energy and water benchmarking software provider for the Brisbane Building Efficiency Program (BBEP).

In late 2019, the City passed BBEP with the goal of lowering the environmental impact of existing buildings through reductions in energy and water consumption as part of overall efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet climate goals. As with other cities and states around the country, Brisbane's first step was implementing benchmarking, requiring the City’s commercial, industrial, and residential buildings 10,000 square feet or larger to report annual energy and water consumption data.

Starting in 2023, Brisbane buildings will also need to show that they are high-performing or take steps to improve. With this transition into BBEP’s next program stage, “Beyond Benchmarking”, the City decided that Touchstone IQ’s software solution was best suited to more efficiently communicate with building owners and manage increasingly complex performance requirement tracking needs.

"Touchstone IQ provides an integrated software solution that will streamline management of the Brisbane Building Efficiency Program and improve communications with our building owners and representatives. We are excited to enter this next phase of our program with an industry-leading software partner to advance our climate and building efficiency goals" said Adrienne Etherton, City of Brisbane Sustainability Manager.

Brisbane is one of seven cities in California with energy and water benchmarking requirements. The State of California also has a mandatory program impacting commercial and residential buildings 50,000 square feet and greater. Collectively, they reflect the growing trend of nearly fifty similar city or state-led energy and water regulations nationwide.

“We are excited to partner with the City of Brisbane to help advance their benchmarking program and upcoming building performance standards,” said Jon Dierking, Touchstone IQ founder and CEO. “We believe the steps the City is taking will help meet broader climate action goals but importantly, also deliver opportunities for local building owners to save resources and money.”
