Trash to Treasure Challenge

Trash 2 Treasure Challenge & Workshop flyers

The Trash to Treasure Challenge began in 2020 as the Recycled Arts and Crafts Contest. Over 30 submissions were received the first year, and it was then that the Open Space and Ecology Committee decided to make it an annual contest.  Brisbane is truly full of creative individuals who are really good at turning trash into treasure!

With the new name, the City aims to expand the 2022 contest beyond art and encourage submissions of a wider array of upcycled items. Kids and adults alike are encouraged to create art, jewelry, fashion, kinetics, garden art, furniture, useful home items or whatever your imagination can dream of from waste. Materials should be destined for the landfill, recycle or compost; minimal use of purchased materials will be accepted.

JOIN OUR WORKSHOP on August 16th from 4-7 PM at the Brisbane Library Community Room to get inspired or get help executing your project! Drop in any time with your ideas, work-in-progress, waste materials for use or sharing, or just a can-do attitude! Registration encouraged.

ALSO NEW this year, we will be displaying submissions at Day in the Park (October 1st) and hosting a "People's Choice Contest" to be voted on by event-goers. City staff will follow up to coordinate drop-off/pick-up of your work, to the extent possible, in September.
