City Hall Roof-Mounted PV System

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Update: Thursday, July 12 - The power in City Hall will be out tomorrow beginning at 12 noon in order to interconnect the new PV system.

Unfortunately, our computers and credit card machines will also be down during the planned shut down.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Update: Monday, July 9 - The City Hall roof-mounted PV installation project is now approximately 90% complete.  The major work remaining is a temporary shutdown of PG&E power so the PV system can be interconnected.  We again thank you for your patience (esp. to those that frequent the Dog Park) as this project is completed!

The City Council has had an interest in constructing a photovoltaic system on the City Hall roof for over a decade, and we’re excited to announce that it’s now happening!  Over the course of the next two months, contractor Sunterra Solar will be working to install a 150 kW system (AC rating), and they will be using the City Hall parking lot near the Dog Park as their staging area.  Therefore, we ask that Dog Park users please refrain from parking in the spaces indicated as restricted with signs and barricades, as those are necessary for the contractor’s materials and equipment, which include a lift.  We look forward to having the system installed, which will allow for shedding more of the City’s load dependence from the public utility.  The current system does not include a commercial solar battery storage system, but in the event the Council does choose to install one, we would see even greater independence from the utility by saving excess power generated during lower demand periods.  If you have any questions about this project, please contact the Public Works Dept. at (415) 508-2130.

If you're getting ready to plan a special event, you may want to consider renting one of the facilities in town, and which are maintained by our Parks and Recreation and Public Works Depts.  This video produced by our Summer Multimedia Intern Johnson Xiao will help give you a better idea of the types of facilities the City has to offer!  If you or your organization are interested in using any of the facilities mentioned in this video for your next meeting, party, or private event, please contact the Parks and Recreation Dept. at (415) 508-2140 or email them at parks-recreation@brisbaneca.org.
