Describe Your Community of Interest

Redistricting Matters

You can help shape the future of San Mateo County.

Right now, a volunteer commission of residents like you is gathering ideas on how to draw maps for each of the County’s five supervisorial districts. The process is called redistricting.

Ideas and input from residents help ensure the districts reflect both population changes (based on data from the 2020 Census) and “communities of interest.”

State law defines a community of interest as “a population that shares common social or economic interests that should be included within a single supervisorial district for purposes of its effective and fair representation.

Keeping communities of interest together as much as possible is a goal of this process.
