Overnight Closures on U.S. 101 - Week of February 28th from 11pm - 4am

101 express lanes
As part of the San Mateo 101 Express Lanes Project, Caltrans will be replacing five overhead sign structures (that span the width of one side of the freeway, from the shoulder to the median) on U.S. 101.

The first step of this work is to safely remove the sign structures and install temporary orange roadside signs along the freeway shoulder. Due to the large size of these sign structures, it is necessary to close one direction of the freeway at a time between Millbrae Avenue and South Airport Boulevard, for five nights.  Southbound lanes will be closed 2/28-3/2 and Northbound lanes will be closed 3/3 & 3/4, between 11pm - 4pm, when traffic volumes are usually light.

Sign structures are being replaced to make room for the new express lane throughout the corridor.

At no point will both the northbound and southbound directions of U.S. 101 be closed at the same time.  Read more about Caltrans' Express Lanes Project here: 101express.com.
