Fourth of July Safety Information in Light of COVID-19

This Independence Day will, and should, look different from how you traditionally celebrate it.  That is due to the fact that COVID-19 is still circulating in our communities, and it's up to each one of us if we're going to once again enjoy the freedoms we're all longing for.  With it being over 100 days that we've been asked to stay home to save lives, we know many are frayed, tired, and maybe feeling isolated.  If you are in need of assistance, know you can always call on one of the 90+ volunteers of the Brisbane Community Response Coalition, or call the Village Helping Hands line, (415) 508-2185.  Volunteers are standing by and wanting to help you get your groceries, prescriptions, or even assist with filling out paperwork.  Please reach out if you need assistance.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind residents that fireworks, including "Safe and Sane" types are NOT ALLOWED in the cities of Brisbane and Daly City.  The City of Pacifica is one of the few cities that allows the use of legal, "Safe and Sane" fireworks to be sold and used in their city however, they will be closing all beaches and parking lots this year.  NCFA has compiled an Emergency Preparedness Newsletter that goes into more detail about the many safety precautions that need to be properly followed concerning fireworks, Pet Safety on July 4th, actions to take around your home in light of fire season, how you can reduce your stress levels during this very stressful global health crisis, and more.  Please read it and share it with a friend or family member.

Lastly, the Brisbane Police Dept. wants to remind residents to call their 24/7 Non-Emergency Police Dispatch Line (415) 467-1212 right away should you hear fireworks being set off in town.  Reporting it to them immediately vs. waiting will give the officers a chance to locate the perpetrators, catch them in the act, and therefore be able to cite them.  This occurred just the other evening.  Officers have also identified the loud booms heard lately to be explosives being set off from the Visitacion Valley/Bayview District.  Due to the low ambient noise level, the noise sounds louder than normal as it echoes throughout our city.  BPD will have extra patrol on July 4th to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Please remember to celebrate this Independence Day safely, creatively, and physically-distanced.  If we all do our part to flatten the curve once more, we will be able to celebrate more freedoms, in addition to our nation's independence.
